ARTWRK009 - Titled "Aplomado Falcon"
The Story of the Drawing:
For a while I worked closely with Jonathan Wood from the Raptor Project, Jonathan is an amazing guy and all around good bloke. It was amazing to work with him and his stunning collection of raptors. He had only aquired this falcon a short time before we photographed it and he was very proud of owning it due to the rarity of the bird.
I got some photos of him holding this bird in his heavy leather protective glove and I decided to paint it as the photos were not usable with a hand and glove in it. I also did a comprehensive tutorial on how I created the painting which can be found on Photography Life website.
There was a lot of work involved in making this image as a fair bit of the bird was blocked from my view by Jonathans arm and hand. I filled in the missing pieces and modified the pose slightly to be more pleasing to the eye. I like the way this painting came out.
It was created on a computer using digital painting techniques and tools. The main items being Adobe Photoshop, Corel Painter and Wacom drawing tablet.
